Balancing Hormone Levels to Promote Optimal Functioning

As we age, our hormone levels naturally change and fluctuate. For men, a decrease in testosterone is commonand generally starts around age 30. Women also notice changes in hormone levels (such as estrogen, testosterone, and progesterone), although their hormone levels are generally affected by biological experiences such as menopause or polycystic ovarian syndrome. These hormone levels are incredibly significant to biological and psychological wellness, and they also impact our day-to-dayexperience. For example, when our hormone levels are imbalanced, we can experience symptoms such as:

  • Decreased libido and erectile dysfunction

  • Loss of morning erections and decreased sexual performance

  • Increased visceral body fat and decreased lean body mass

  • Decreased physical strength

  • Fatigue and loss of energy

  • Decreased physical activity and decrease in a generalfeeling of well-being

  • Depression, mood swings, irritability, and poor concentration

If you experience any of these symptoms, you may be experiencing an imbalance in hormone levels. You may find that you feel drastically different than you felt when you were younger, and if you are like me, this does not sit well with you. You don’t want to fall behind or age prematurely. However, with hormone replacement therapy, you can balance your hormone levels and achieve a variety of positive impacts.  For example, you can experience the following:

  • Improved physical stamina, endurance, and better results from exercise

  • Improved muscle bulk and muscle tone

  • Improved lipid metabolism

  • Improved glucose/sugar metabolism, and reduced risk of type 2 diabetes

  • Improved libido and sex drive

  • A more beneficial hormonal environment for weight management

Treatment is available and can include testosterone management for men, and hormone management for women. It is important that treatment is tailored to each individual’s specific needs. Treatments can include different approaches such as a more traditional emphasis on an increase in testosterone within the male body, and the correct balance of hormones in the female body. Treatments may also include HCG injections, Vitamin D, DHEA, medication for thyroid-related issues, and routine blood work to make sure your body receives the maximum benefit from treatment.
