Ronald McDonald House Opens New Doors in 2019

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Colorado to open new doors in Spring 2019

A new Ronald McDonald House is being built on the UCHealth Memorial North campus near the southwest corner of Union Boulevard and Royal Pine Drive.  It will be within eyesight and walking distance to the new Children’s Hospital Colorado, Colorado Springs.

“With Colarelli Construction leading the way, we plan to break ground mid-August with a challenging goal of opening doors of a new Ronald McDonald House simultaneously when Children’s Hospital opens their doors Spring 2019,” shared Executive Director, Beth Alessio.  “Our goal and hope is to ensure every family receives the support they need, when they need it, and our operations don’t skip a beat with our move to a new House in Northern Colorado Springs.”

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Colorado works hand-in-hand with Children’s Hospital Colorado and other nearby pediatric services to provide the opportunity for Family Centered Care to occur, a practice found to be vital to the comprehensive care of critically ill children.  Ronald McDonald House gives families the opportunity to stay near their hospitalized child and involved in their complex medical care throughout treatment and at no cost to them.  Lifting burdens of where will they stay, what will they eat, how will they get back and forth, do laundry, etc allows families to focus on their child throughout their medical treatment.

“We believe that when families are together, they are stronger. We believe the love and support of family is as powerful as any medication. We believe in keeping families near the care and resources needed to thrive. We believe that seriously ill children should have their parents and family close by throughout their treatment.” The Ronald McDonald House offers a warm, safe, clean, nurturing environment for families of seriously ill and injured children. Many families travel far from home to get specialized care, and Ronald McDonald Houses serve as a home base for families whose children are receiving critical treatment at nearby medical facilities.

“By staying at our Ronald McDonald House, parents can better communicate with their child’s medical team, remain close to their children, and keep up with complicated treatment plans,” Alessio said. “They can focus on the health of their child, while having a place to stay nearby at little or no cost.”

Fully accessible to all, families staying at the new Ronald McDonald House will be provided with private bedrooms, community spaces, large kitchens, play areas for children and teens, outdoor living and play areas, laundry facilities, friendly, caring staff/volunteers, and home-cooked meals.  “RTA Architects worked hand-in-hand with us to ensure the families were kept in mind when designing the new House, each space created purposely for those who will utilize it most,” Alessio said.

Ronald McDonald House is more than just a House. It provides comfort, support, and resources to families facing the stress, fear, and hardship of having a seriously ill child. Shared recently by one of the thousands of families supported by the Colorado Springs Ronald McDonald House, “Staying at the Ronald McDonald House and being with families facing similar issues gave us hope, something we were missing before we walked through the doors.  It was a gift we wouldn’t have received otherwise.”

Golf Tournament

Every June, for the last 26 years, Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Southern Colorado has hosted the Cameron Memorial Golf Tournament. This is our largest annual fundraiser, with 100% of the proceeds staying local, investing in the programs we provide to families in need.

Our radiothon is an all-day event hosted by a local radio station.  With the help of dedicated DJ’s we raise both awareness and much needed program funds.  Each year, this event raises thousands of dollars that directly support seriously ill children and their families served by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Colorado.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Colorado relies on donations to help keep families together when they have a child who needs special medical care. As a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, we continue to fulfill our mission through the support of the generous people of southern Colorado.
